About the 5th Annual Urology Joint Advocacy Conference
The Urology Joint Advocacy Conference is the only meeting of its kind to combine the resources of the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the American Urological Association. Through these combined efforts, the Urology Joint Advocacy Conference will feature an exciting lineup of speakers, training seminars on grassroots advocacy and lobbying opportunities for urologists to understand the impact that Washington, DC, has on the practice of urology.

Take advantage of this opportunity to learn how the changing political and legislative environment of today will affect how urology is practiced tomorrow.

Join the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the American Urological Association in Washington, DC, in 2010 to find out where urology stands politically at this important time. Hear compelling speakers discuss issues that concern your practice and your political interests, experience our nation’s capital and, most importantly, tell your legislators what government needs to do to protect and defend patients and providers alike. Don’t stand idly by as your malpractice insurance skyrockets, unfunded mandates increase the costs of your practice, and federal reimbursements decline. Congress is listening…Let your voice be heard!

Appointments with Members of Congress
Individual appointments will be arranged for March 23, 2010, anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. We ask you try your best not to make your travel arrangements during this time. We will do our best to arrange an appointment for you with your member of Congress. However, certain members of Congress may be unavailable; if this is the case, we will do our best to arrange an alternate appointment.

You will be given background information packets on issues before arriving in Washington, DC. More information and talking points will be provided at the briefing during the Urology Joint Advocacy Conference. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about these briefing materials to make sure you understand them well. Some of these materials will be intended to leave with the member of Congress or the staff person when you finish.

UROPAC Luncheon
UROPAC will be sponsoring a luncheon on March 22nd, where we will welcome respected authority on U.S. elections and political trends, Charlie Cook, to address the UROPAC membership. As the publisher of The Cook Political Report and a political analyst for the National Journal Group, his prodigious writing is a direct line to politics for those who want to know what is happening behind the scenes in America’s halls of power.

Admission to the Monday luncheon and reception requires a $250 donation to UROPAC, the political action committee of urology. UROPAC is the only PAC that solely represents urology and uses its influence to support the issues of the profession. Through the AACU and the AUA, UROPAC works to ensure that you have a successful practice for years to come.

A strong PAC sends a message to members of Congress that we will support you for supporting our patients and their concerns. PACs do not buy the support of lawmakers, but allow groups of like-minded individuals to show support for candidates who share their views on important policy issues and, in some cases, can work to defeat candidates who do not share those views. UROPAC is your PAC — it is made up of fellow urologists who set the goals of the PAC and direct the distribution of the funds. Please make sure that you join UROPAC and do your part to help urologists achieve their legislative goals!

Lawmakers cannot make decisions about your profession based on their understanding alone. They need your guidance, leadership and medical experience to generate policies that will accurately reflect the healthcare needs of the state and serve the needs of the nation. You play an important role! Please plan to attend this important conference!
